ON AND OFF THE AIR WITH THE MISFITS, REJECTS AND NOBLE PIONEERS OF KFAT |
|
KFAT-FM was located in Gilroy, California. It broadcast a quirky mix of country, blues, old-timey
music, raunchy comedy, bluegrass, Hawaiian, rock and whatever struck the fancy of the disc jockey.
With an astonishing estimated 85% of its music not played anywhere else, KFAT engaged the hearts and minds of thousands and thousands of people, and featured a colorful staff whose employment might otherwise have been doubtful. |
On the air from mid-1975 to Jan. 1983 at 94.5 FM,
from high atop Mt. Loma Prieta (site of the famous 1989 earthquake) near San Jose, its signal
spread from north of San Francisco to south of Monterey
and east to the Sierra Nevada mountains.
Over two decades later it's clearly not forgotten; Some of the original KFAT staff carries on the tradition (updated for the millennium) at KPIG in Freedom, CA., one of the most-accessed radio stations on the web. |
